A trek along Tarey Bhir makes for a magnificent day trip from Namchi, a major town in South Sikkim. On the way, the road branches into two and you have to take the route that goes towards the right. Tarey Bhir is at a span of nearly 16 km from Namchi, near a small village called Sukhbarey. The trek starts with a paved pathway that goes downhill. The dangerous but is a pleasant walkway built on top of a mountain that is covered with bottle-green pines on one side and a lighter-green carpet of grass, moss, and little bushes on the other. The walkway drives to the edge of a cliff offering extensive views of the surrounding Himalayan ranges. You can also see the Darjeeling and Kalimpong hills which are at a lower elevation from here. It also offers beautiful views of the convergence of two rivers, Teesta and Rangit, that bend through the valley below.

What to see

The delicate beauty of the Himalayan landscape at Tarey Bhir and the minimal number of visitors make it worth visiting. Located in a small hamlet near Sadam, it is rarely on the schedule of travelers who come visiting South Sikkim.
