Kolkata also is known as the city of joy currently undergoing fight against Covid-19 (Corona Virus) since March. If you are planning to trip to Kolkata, keep following the schedules as Government has declared West Bengal state-wide lockdown. West Bengal Government has decided to suspend all the activities and operations at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) Airport for seven scheduled days in August. This announcement comes just after the declaration West Bengal biweekly lockdown in the state.

Chief Minister of West Bengal had on Tuesday said the decision on biweekly total lockdown till August end was taken after consulting experts to check the increasing number of coronavirus cases in the state. The state government implemented two lockdowns every week in the month of July also. The government had earlier admitted community transmission of COVID-19 in the state. All public transports, government and private offices, banks and other commercial establishments, barring those dealing with essential services, remain closed during the lockdown. Medicine shops and health establishments will remain open. Petrol pumps too will also function. Schools, colleges and other educational institutes have remained closed in the state since late March when the first phase of the nation-wide lockdown started.

As per the Government of West Bengal, flight operation will remain close on the following dates:

  • 5 August (Wednesday)
  • 8 August (Saturday)
  • 16 August (Sunday)
  • 17 August (Monday)
  • 23 August (Sunday)
  • 24 August (Monday)
  • 31 August (Monday)

Previously Government of West Bengal decided for nine days complete lockdown. But receiving request and appeal from different quarters not to observe state-wide lockdown on certain dates coinciding with festivals and important community occasions Government decided to withdraw state-wide complete lockdown on 2 August (Sunday) and 9 August (Sunday).
