Kumbh Mela 2021

According to Official Statement, Uttarakhand Chief Minister, Shri Trivendra Singh Rawat on Wednesday said that Haridwar Kumbh Mela 2021 will hold as per schedule. The chief minister met a delegation of the Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad (ABAP) and assured that Kumbh Mela will be held as scheduled on April 2021. However, certain changes can take place of the traditionally organized Mela depending upon the Covid19 (CoronaVirus) situation at the time.

Rawat said that the Akhadas which have land to provide facilities for devotees and visitors at their level will be provided money in the form of grants. Departmental officials will be deputed to check the quality of work and other aspects. The CM further emphasized that all permanent works underway in Haridwar will be completed before the Kumbh Mela. He said that work is being undertaken at a swift pace on the construction of bridges and roads leading to Haridwar.
Chief Minister also states that suggestions from the Parishad will be taken into account for organizing and preparing for the mass event. All the Akharas will be provided with funds in the form of grants for making necessary arrangements for the Kumbh Mela.

The Chief Minister also advised the Akhada delegates to directly address the Urban Development Minister Kaushik concerning their problems so that they can be resolved at the earliest. He said special focus will be laid on the reconstruction of roads leading to the Akhadas, removing trespasses, and ensuring sanitation.

The Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad (ABAP) president Narendra Giri requested the Chief Minister Shri Trivendra Singh Rawat to name the ghats in Kumbh Mela after the guardian deities of the 13 Akhadas and the sectors after the Akhadas.
He also requested Rawat to direct the officials concerned to facilitate work on repairing roads leading to the Akhadas, electricity connection, water supply, sanitation, and repair of toilets among other works.

Whereas, with the rise of Covid19 (CoronaVirus) cases regularly several local and various sections demanded that the events be rescheduled keeping in mind the health concerns. Retired Professor BD Joshi said, “Kumbh should not be held in 2021 considering the larger public interests. It was due to the pandemic that the priests of the four Char Dham shrines opposed this year’s pilgrimage. The Kanwar Yatra has been canceled too.”
