The Amarnath Yatra 2021 has been canceled for the second consecutive year amid of COVID-19 pandemic. Earlier due to increasing cases of the second-wave pandemic, the registration for Amarnath Yatra was temporarily suspended. The 56 days Amarnath Yatra 2021 was scheduled to commence on June 28 and finish on August 22, which is also the day of Raksha Bandhan. The Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board had said that the situation is being continuously and closely monitored. Earlier today from the office of the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir tweeted, “It’s important to save people’s lives. So, it is not advisable to hold and conduct this year’s pilgrimage in the larger public interest.”.
The Yatra will be “symbolic only” but “all traditional religious rituals shall be performed at the Holy Cave Shrine,” the Lieutenant-Governor’s office said. The annual pilgrimage to Amarnath Shrine was discussed at the Home Minister Amit Shah’s high-level meeting in Kashmir on Friday.
The previous year the Amarnath Yatra was also canceled. In 2020 the infection of Covid-19 was high and this year the situation of pandemics is the same. But this year it is believed that the surge of second-wave of Coronavirus (Covid-19) Pandemic was due to the Kumbha Mela held in Uttar Pradesh.
